（1）专业概况与特色
英语本科专业自2000年以来为广东省培养大批中小学英语骨干教师，至今已经连续培养了22届毕业生。英语本科专业是我校历史最久、最具传统优势、实力最强的专业之一。英语专业现有全日制在校生九百多人。专业以外国语言文学学科为根基，夯实学生语言能力和跨文化素养。同时深度融合教育学学科，系统培养学生的教学设计与课堂管理能力。
（2）培养目标
培养师德高尚、乐于从教，掌握扎实的英语学科基础知识，熟悉中外文化知识，具有跨文化能力、自主学习能力、思辨能力和创新意识，能在中学和相关教育机构从事英语教学、研究及管理工作的高素质应用型人才。
（3）核心课程
综合英语、英语演讲与辩论、高级英语、英语写作、语言学导论、英语文学导论、西方文明史、跨文化交际、中学英语课程标准解读、中学英语教材分析、英语教学案例分析、英语测试与评价、外语教学法主要流派、英语教学技能训练等。
（4）就业方向
学生在校期间考取教师资格证书，主要从事中小学英语教育工作，和为各类外贸机构、外向型工商企业部门从事英语翻译工作。就业一向以专业功底扎实、服务意识好、安心基础教育工作等优良素质而受到用人单位和社会的一致好评。
（5）师资力量
现有专任教师64人，其中教授6人，副教授23人，博士27人，过半老师有国外留学或访学经历。

Program Overview and Features
Since its establishment in 2000, the undergraduate English program has cultivated a large number of backbone English teachers for primary and secondary schools across Guangdong Province, with 22 consecutive cohorts of graduates to date. It ranks among the university’s longest-running, traditionally advantageous and strongest majors. Currently, the program has over 900 full-time enrolled students.
Rooted in the discipline of Foreign Languages and Literatures, the program builds students’ solid language proficiency and cross-cultural competence. It also integrates pedagogical theories in depth to systematically develop students’ capabilities in instructional design and classroom management.
Program Objectives
This program aims to foster high-caliber applied talents who uphold noble professional ethics and a passion for teaching. Graduates will possess a solid command of fundamental English knowledge and Sino-foreign cultural insights, as well as strong cross-cultural communication skills, independent learning abilities, critical thinking and innovative thinking. They will be qualified to engage in English teaching, academic research and administrative work in middle schools and relevant educational institutions.

Career Prospects
Students obtain teachers’ qualification certificates during their studies. Most graduates take up English teaching positions in primary and secondary schools, while others work as translators for foreign trade organizations and export-oriented enterprises. Boasting solid professional expertise, sound service awareness and dedication to basic education, our graduates have won wide recognition from employers and the society at large.
Faculty
The program has 64 full-time teachers, including 6 professors, 23 associate professors and 27 PhD holders. More than half of the faculty have overseas study or academic visiting experience.
